We’ve carefully researched lighting at all of our scenic photography locations to ensure your photos look their absolute best! Our session times are based on sunset, with seasonal adjustments to take advantage of the most flattering natural light.

Since many of our photoshoot locations are near the mountains, the sun sets slightly earlier than the official sunset time. Because of this, we don’t always experience a traditional golden hour, but rest assured that we schedule all sessions during the most beautiful and consistent lighting conditions for stunning outdoor portraits.

The only exceptions are for large groups or photoshoots with small children. For these, we recommend booking the latest available time. We use specific areas at our primary locations that provide optimal lighting for group and young family photography.

answer:

Colorado’s weather is surprisingly dry, so bad weather is rarely a concern! In fact, did you know that Colorado experiences more average daily sunshine hours than Florida? Even during our rainy season, showers are usually brief, leaving plenty of clear hours throughout the day for a beautiful photoshoot.

We keep a close eye on the forecast and will reach out if we see anything concerning. If needed, we’re usually flexible and can adjust your session time to a clear hour or reschedule for a different day.

What if it’s raining?
A little drizzle doesn’t stop us! As long as it’s not heavy rain, we’re happy to continue as planned. We even have cute clear umbrellas that you can request to use. And who knows? You might even get a rainbow in the background!

What about cloudy or overcast skies?
Overcast days are actually a photographer’s dream—clouds act as a natural light diffuser, creating soft, flattering lighting for your portraits. They also open up additional background opportunities that might not be usable in harsh sunlight.

What if it snows?
Many of our clients love snowy photoshoots! Fresh snow can create a stunning winter wonderland effect. However, heavy snowfall can sometimes reduce background visibility or result in wet, slushy conditions. If that happens, we may recommend moving your session to a clear time slot after the snow has settled.

Ultimately, we’ll decide together whether the weather is ideal for your session—we’d never force you to continue in harsh weather conditions.

answer:

Yes, but outfit changes can significantly cut into your session time. If you’d like to change outfits, we recommend adding an extra 30 minutes to your session. When booking on our website, you’ll find the option to add extra time before checkout.

Restrooms & Privacy Considerations
  • Not all locations have restrooms. Even if a restroom is available, you'll typically walk away from the parking area, and returning to the start point with your photographer can be time-consuming.
  • Privacy is limited on-trail. Consider wearing an undershirt for a quick switch or bringing a hat, jacket, or another easy accessory that can be changed without full privacy.

Who Should Add Extra Time for Outfit Changes?
  • Individuals & couples: We can accommodate outfit changes for 1–2 people, but we still recommend adding extra time. Keep in mind that outfit changes will take time from your session, which may limit your options or your ability to explore multiple areas for a greater variety of scenic backgrounds.
  • Groups of 3-6 people: We require adding an extra 30 minutes for outfit changes.
  • Families with young children and large groups: We do not recommend outfit changes, as they can be disruptive.

answer:

Absolutely! However, we often book back-to-back sessions during our busy season, so it's best to add extra time in advance to guarantee availability.

Booking additional time ahead of time is also more cost-effective, but if your photographer is available, you're welcome to add 30 minutes on the spot for $65. We'll send you a payment link after your session to complete the purchase.

To ensure you get the time you need, we highly recommend booking in advance at our regular rate of $50 for an additional 30 minutes.

answer:

Please text your eta if you’re running behind. Traffic in Colorado can be unpredictable, so we always recommend leaving early to ensure you arrive on time.

It's important to start your session feeling calm and prepared, as feeling rushed can set the wrong tone for your photoshoot. If you're not relaxed, it's likely to show in your photos and it can be difficult for your photographer to pose you naturally.

We are unable to extend your session time if you arrive late, but if your photographer is available, you may add 30 minutes for $65.

Please note: Your session time may be forfeited if we are unable to reach you and you are more than 15 minutes late.

answer:

The earlier, the better! Since we are a small team, our availability is limited- especially during busy travel periods.

If you're visiting near a holiday, spring break, winter break, or the warmer months, we highly recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred date and time. Three weeks or more is ideal, but we’ll always do our best to accommodate last-minute photoshoots when possible.

answer:

The most important thing is to dress appropriately for the weather so you stay comfortable throughout your session. Since Colorado’s weather can change quickly, we recommend checking the forecast multiple times as your date approaches.

We also recommend:
  • Considering your background – Choose colors that complement the scenery.
  • Coordinating with your group – Outfits should complement each other without being too matchy.
  • Wearing comfortable shoes – Many of our mountain locations involve walking dirt trails or uneven terrain.

We’re happy to discuss this in more detail during your session planning call! We’ll go over colors to avoid and provide you with a detailed wardrobe guide. Plus, if you’re unsure about an outfit, feel free to text us photos, and we’ll be happy to help!

answer:

Our mountain photoshoots are tailored to you! We typically take our guests on leisurely walks with plenty of breaks for photos. While there isn’t usually a lot of walking involved, we’re happy to take you a bit further if you’d like to explore more scenic areas.

Our locations are carefully chosen for their easy trails and accessible scenic views. Some even have beautiful backdrops right near the parking area, others have options to drive to different areas of the park to minimize walking.

If you have a preference for keeping walking to a minimum or exploring more, let us know during your session planning call! If you’d like assistance choosing the best location for you, feel free to reach out before booking.

We also accommodate photoshoots for guests with limited mobility, including those who use wheelchairs or walkers, as well as elderly guests. No matter your mobility needs, we have options that work for everyone!

Modera Imagery does not offer wedding photography, but we frequently work with couples celebrating after their elopements, honeymoons, or vow renewals who want a stunning photoshoot in the mountains.

Did you have an engagement session with us and love your photographer? Some of our photographers offer wedding photography independently, and we’d be happy to provide a referral if possible.

Just reach out to us, and we’ll do our best to help!

answer:

Tipping is never expected but always greatly appreciated! Our photographers work hard to create a fun, relaxed, and memorable experience while capturing beautiful images for you. Similar to other service-based industries, such as tour guides, tipping is a wonderful way to show appreciation for excellent service.

That said, there’s absolutely no obligation. A kind review or referral is another fantastic way to support our team. Thank you for allowing us to capture your special moments!

answer:

Our guaranteed turnaround time is within 3 weeks, but we always strive to deliver your photos as quickly as possible. Delivery times may vary depending on the season—during slower periods, turnaround may be faster, but during peak seasons, we may need the full processing time.

We’ll always keep you updated, and if your photos are ready sooner, we’ll send them your way right away!

answer:

Yes! While we don’t recommend choosing a date or time on their behalf, we do offer custom gift vouchers that allow them to book at their convenience.

Our gift vouchers cover the session fee and include a digital image credit of your choice. Pricing starts at $260.
