Things to do in Boulder This Weekend

(And Why It’s the Perfect Place for a Photoshoot)

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway that mixes mountain scenery, great food, and a little adventure, Boulder should be at the very top of your list. Whether you’re planning a quick trip or you’re lucky enough to live nearby, there’s never a shortage of ways to enjoy the weekend here. I put together some of my favorite Boulder activities – and if you’re looking to capture some memories while you’re at it, don’t forget we offer photoshoots with stunning Flatiron mountain views!

Here’s how to make the most of your Boulder weekend:

Scenic Hike at Chautauqua Park

Boulder is basically heaven for Colorado hikers, and it doesn’t get much more iconic than the Flatirons at Chautauqua Park. Whether you’re up for a short stroll or want to tackle a steeper climb, you’ll be rewarded with views that look like a postcard. We love this location for mountain photoshoots because the scenery is that good – especially at sunset!

You might also check out the Chautauqua Auditorium events calendar for live performances.

Watch the Sunset at Lost Gulch Overlook

If you want a real “wow” moment to end your day, Lost Gulch Overlook is the place. It’s just a short drive up Flagstaff Mountain, but the views feel like you’re on top of the world. Sunset here is absolutely magical, and we truly love it as a backdrop for our photoshoots.

Not comfortable exploring these locations alone? We’d love to show you around! You have the option to add a multi-location experience when you book a Boulder photoshoot with us. We’ll take you to both Chautauqua and Lost Gulch and provide you with truly amazing photos against some the most gorgeous scenery Boulder has to offer.

Stroll Through Boulder’s Farmers Market (Saturdays)

If you’re in downtown Boulder on a Saturday morning (April through November), make time for the local Boulder Farmers Market. It’s one of the best in Colorado, and you’ll find everything from fresh produce and flowers to handmade goods, live music, and food stands that are absolutely worth a stop.

And don’t miss the Yummy Yummy Products stand! I’m personally obsessed with their spicy black bean hummus topped with tri-colored corn salsa – it’s sooo good.

Just down the street, you’ll also find the Dushanbe Teahouse, one of my favorite restaurants in Colorado. If you can, stop in to eat and enjoy a tea – it’s definitely worth it!

Explore Downtown Boulder & Pearl Street Mall

You can’t visit downtown Boulder without spending time at Pearl Street Mall. The historic brick walkways are lined with shops, restaurants, art galleries, and street performers. It’s lively and charming all at once, and the perfect local spot to soak in Boulder’s fun downtown energy.

Catch a Show at Fiske Planetarium

For something a little different, head to the Fiske Planetarium on the CU Boulder campus. Their 8K dome screen makes astronomy shows, laser light shows, and even their art exhibits are impressive. I’d especially recommend checking out one of their music shows – I went to a Harry Styles laser show and loved it (and I’m not even a huge Harry fan!).

Go Hiking… with Goats!

Yes, you read that right. The Goat Hike along the Old Miners’ Trail is easily one of the most unique experiences you’ll find around Boulder. You’ll hike with a small herd of adorable goats through historic Colorado mining country, passing old cabins, gold mine tunnels, and (if the weather cooperates) participating in a “downhill goat race.”

You can find this experience by searching “Goat Hike Boulder” on Airbnb Experiences – it’s a must-do if you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary.

Enjoy a Night Out with Live Music at the Boulder Theater

Wrap up your weekend with a show at the historic Boulder Theater. With its retro Art Deco vibe, lively lineup, and cozy feel, it’s a perfect place to grab tickets for a low-key night out. This place is super fun for an easy date night concert!
